Alma St. PhotoVoice Project
Through the PhotoVoice project, neighbors in one Northeast Central Durham neighborhood have explored themes related to community belonging; cross racial, cultural, and linguistic dialogue; and building strong and inclusive neighborhoods in Durham. The Alma St. PhotoVoice project brought together Latinx and African-American residents and homeowners on Alma St., N. Guthrie Ave., and Ashe St. to use photography to document their experiences, share their stories, and brainstorm solutions to community issues. With a focus on grassroots social action, the Alma St. PhotoVoice project aims to raise awareness about housing conditions in Northeast Central Durham. DCLT -- a nonprofit in Durham that develops and advocates for permanently affordable housing for Durham residents with low and moderate incomes -- facilitated the Alma St. PhotoVoice Project through its East Durham Engagement Subcommittee.
